Northway Construction holds the distinction of having built Minnesota’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified residence and completed the state’s first LEED-certified whole-house remodel. LEED certification is the U.S. Green Building Council’s nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
We’re proud to be leaders in green building. But we’re aware that “green” has been overused, and it means different things to different people. To some, it means taking reasonable steps to reduce fossil fuel consumption and lessen our impact upon the earth. To others, it means ensuring a healthier living environment for our families. For some, “green” is a marketing strategy, and they use “greenwashing” as a ploy to falsely capitalize on the good intentions of consumers.
Northway Construction knows the difference between the greenwashed products and services and those that really make a difference. Steve Northway, CEO of Northway Construction, co-founded Building Knowledge, Inc. (BKI), the building science training and consulting firm that literally wrote the LEED for Homes programs for the USGBC. Our close ties to BKI give us an inside edge on the LEED certification process, which can help you in making the decision to have your project certified, and help you in choosing the best options for you in meeting the LEED standards.
Whether you are interested in learning more about LEED certification for your house or commercial building, or want to incorporate our high performance building techniques and other “green” features into your project without full LEED certification, we invite you to call or stop by. We look forward to talking with you.
